The rendering looks sharp, keeping in line with Saab's tendency to show production traits in the newer chassis before the older one. (1985 9000 showed 1987 900 traits, 1992 9000CS showed 1993 NG900 traits, 2002 9-5 previewed 2003 9-3 grille treatment, etc. etc.) There is a lot of M08 9-3 in the fender treatment; Aero-X in the tail (as far as I can tell).
Lexus 300... saab should always keep the hood design the same where the edges roll and meet the fenders. yes it does look like a current saab 9-5 wwhich most people hate anyway. with all the chrome and black plastic. this just looks very outdated. saab has been outdated for years now. saab needs a design that keeps a saab a saab. not trying to look like an audi a6 a lexus 300. for the 9-5 I would say best years for body is 04 and 05 except that they should do the 5 door set up. for interiore they should do the 9000 interior as base design and go from there.
for the 9-3 they should bting back 3 door and 5 door hatch backs.
and for the 9-7x... they should either drop it or do a striaght 6 twin turbo.and redesign the whole thing to be comparable to porsche cayenne turbo or something. enough with the added water.
Sheesh. How can you tell. I'm sure you have a better eye than my old eyes, but it's tough to tell what you have with those photos. I think any new design is going to be a slave to wind tunnel results and the new German standards for pedestrian safety. Everything is getting to look very similar in my eyes.
I'm sad not to see the clamshell hood, I love that about my 9-5 and c900. Other than that the front looks pretty aggressive, not too shabby. The doors go too high IMHO, kinda like the new chryslers (charger, 300, etc...)
If that is the best they can offer and there is no bio-d in the future for this side of the pond (and only 2000 TurboXWDs being offered) I say resurrect some 99s and mod for veggie oil....
Saab's new 9-5 continues testing - as the Swedish car maker continues to fight for its survival. These latest spy photos, taken yesterday at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, are proof that Saab does finally have the new product for which its dealers are clamouring.
Pending the sale of Saab, the new 9-5 is due to be shown this autumn at the September 2009 Frankfurt motor show, ahead of a showroom launch in winter 2009-10. It's a step change for Saab's range-topper; after a decade of stagnation in the exec sector, the 9-5 is finally brought kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Our latest spy photos confirm a more low-slung style, with an especially noticeable fastback rear screen (a touring estate will also be offered later in 2010). We've previously reported how the wheelbase is said to be stretched by around 14cm to create extra cabin room compared with today's 12-year-old 9-5.
I know this means almost nothing but. The wheels look audi/VW-esk 18s.
