I'm looking at a 2002-2003 9-5 Aero. What fuel mileage are you garnering on the highway (I drive around 80MPH) and in the city? With gas possibly headed to $4 per gallon, the V8 in my current car looks very thirsty.
Any thing I should look out for on this model 9-5 Aero?
30-32 mpg at 80 mph is pretty optimistic. My 2000 9-5 Aero does about 29 mph at 75.
City driving - I have a lot of stop and go, short trip driving (cold cars use more gas), so my city mileage is not very good, 18 mpg or so. 21-22 is probably likely for more typical city driving.
I get around 24 MPG myself on the highway, though I travel over a lot of hilly terrain (3% grades for many miles) so that reduces my mileage fairly significantly. city mileage is around 19-21.
Also note that when my 9-5 is doing an indicated "80", it's actually doing 75. I usually cruise at an indicated 90 MPH which is around 84 mph. (GPS verified)
I have found that if I am driving very conservatively (75ish or less) and going over flat ground, 30-32 could be achieved but this is not a realistic MPG figure.
It's hard to break 31 with the '01 9-5 LPT (Td04'ed). It is a 5 speed. I think the 5 speed makes a positive difference, especially in the <04 models (4 speed autos)
I get 24-29mpg city depending on how aggressively I drive and how much traffic there is. Highway at 70mph will net about 35mpg, and at 85mph (my usual speed) I get about 30-32mpg. This is on my brand new fuel system (new tank, filter, pump), new spark plugs, tuned ECU, etc.
AT 80mph i usually see approx. 27mpg.
Around town it is usually down about 20. (probably could be higher, but the boost is just so nice)
