the past couple winters when there is signifcant snow on the ground i go ahead and shut the ESP off becasue it doesn't seem to benefit me very much at all. don't wory though, i'm not one of these people that when they are stuck in the snow put my foot through the floor. since my car is an automatic i just turn on the winter mode so that i don't accidently fly into high revs, especially when the engine is still cold.
just curious if anyone else shuts off the ESP in the winter.
I find TCS to be very helpful in the snow, keeps the car moving when I would have otherwise been spinning one wheel. It'll be kinda unless when I eventually get a LSD.
I might let air bags slide, but ABS is damn handy!
ABS is probably one of the only computer aided traction devices I like. This is because there is no way anyone could adjust brake pressure between all 4 wheels.
I leave it on when flyin' down the road on a long distance drive. However, turn it off if/when I need to for trying to torque my way out of deep snow, if/when I hit any. Virginia's winters are nothing like what you guys might get north of here.
NO one ever buys snow tires down here, and the last significant snow we had I saw three SUV's in the ditch, one on its roof. I think I'm perhaps the only one out there who actually buys snow tires. ESP is on sometimes, off others.
You and me both, someguy! Culpeper/Warrenton got a dusting, but not much. The Aero and the Vert LOVE the snow with winter tires on. I'm wearing them down on this dry pavement, but at least I'm saving the summer tires' tread...
Yeah, the ESP sucks in the snow. Serves absolutely no purpose. I just leave it on because any kind of warning light that appears on my instrument panel just annoys me.
The ESP in my dad's Audi is actually really good in the snow. Put your foot in it in a corner and it would cut the power and grab the brakes in a way that straightened the car out, and then it would let you have power again. What's funny is that if you kept your foot on the floor it would do the slide then correct thing three or four times in a row.
I turn off ESP when I have to accelerate... or when pulling a donut
I've found that sometimes in the deep snow, you get better traction (atleast with my near bald summer times) when you let 'em spin a bit.
When I'm up to speed, I turn ESP on since it makes for cornering on ice/snow a lot safer and has saved me a few times from rocketing off the road into a snowbank.
