The other day I received and E-mail from a customer about engine sludging. I was going to just deleat it as hog wash. Instead I opened it and found probably one of the best explanations of why this is becomming such a problem. It was interesting that it mentioned ALL the manufacturers that are having problems and why some are not. Here is the web address if anyone is interested www.schleeter.com/oil-sludge.htm
The thing I like about the article is that it doesn't condem just the auto makers. It explained how the government played a role in it along with the oil companies. I just thought it was a good explenation. I also got a kick out of seeing how much trouble VW and Audi have with it, theres alot more years than SAAB
I bought a 2002 9-5 new. I change the oil myself every 3000 miles, use Mobil 1, use Mann filters.
I don't have sludge.
I've always said the extended service interval was way too long on modern cars. This certainly helps me state that case when others insist on going 15,000 miles or more.
