So i need new tires, currently i have goodyear eagle f-1 gs3's i love them but thinking of saving some cash at the moment whats a good deal or should i stick with the same. performance is key and i live in miami so winter is no problem.
what is stock? this is my question...
16" wheels or 17"?
215/55/16, or 225/45/17
My recommendation changes based on what size, and also what kind of driving you do
I personally prefer Michelin Pilot Sport on the 9-5. Last set was the stock Conti SportContacts that came with the '06 9-5 Aero wheels. I was actually quite pleased with those, but they're pretty expensive if I remember correctly.
For summer only, I have truly loved the General Exclaim UHP. They are relatively inexpensive, very sticky and have lasted the longest that I have seen in a summer tire in that size so far.
well i went with the exclaim Uhp, i am very happy with them for $450 for all 4 mounted and balanced. THanks for the info, kinda wish i went with a 35 side wall instead of 45 but there good. I went from a 215 to a 245 made a big difference. Thanks alot for the info
17x8 rk2's.
The 225's in the generals that I have run before were much better than the 235's on the same wheels. I have also definitely played around with the tire pressures and the 235's just seem sloppier.
The only thing that I can think is that 225's are a bit more stretched on a 8in wide wheel, so the sidewall may be a bit more firm (artificially) than a 235.
But a 235 vs a 2225 with the same aspect ration (i.e. 45 series) is also going to be slightly taller ~.3-.4 inches so that could explain it.
But I still think that it would be due to the type of tire. If you have a tire with a firm sidewall (i.e. Azenis, A046, Kook's) you shouldn't notice a difference.
I would guess what you are describing as "sloppy" would be attributed to sidewall flex or rollover.
yes i agree it is definatly the sidewall that is making it feel sloppy, STX221 i have no rubbing what so ever i have stock aero rims. with stock suspension. There is definatly a noticable difference with changing lanes at high speed they feel there is alot of roll in the side wall.
I had a set of Kumho Ecsta sport tyres on a C900, for an "economy tire" all I can say is "wow". Great load rating which is important for a 9-5, also very sticky with no road noise and very good in the rain.
well it was on a C-900, not a 9-5 I have a set of the Kumho Ecsta MX's on the SPG. really though, it hardly matters what kind or tires you put on a C-900 as long as they are not Michelin's or Pirelli's... they do great.
I have a set of the Continental ContiExtremeContact's on my 9-5 currently. Impressive for an A/S tire, much better than the Avons they replaced, though they have an insecure feel at or near the limit, and lots of tire roll, though I think it's just how the 9-5 is with a stock aero suspension & 16" wheels. It is a very large car.
