the $500 9-5 project

I am going to start this project this sunday of tearing apart fixing problems and converting this thing to a 2005 aero clone... its a 2002 9-5 base with a 5 speed and 2.3 small turbo. My goal is to get this thing going and because I like the bed more than the couch I'm doing this on a budget. I will be doing the body work fixing normal odds and ends and finaly performance. so stay tuned and I will keep with the updates.....

ok forgot to give the back ground i grabed this for $500 from my old job it was traded in on new years eve and was in a light front end whack needs a hood two fenders and new bumper and front lights..... other than that car runs great and just needs some tlc.

Get a another cheapo 9-5 (same color) with a dead engine or rear end damage. Unless you can get all those parts cheap, you could easily spend another $500 or more. Then part out the donor car (a good V6 turbo alone is worth a lot) and get all your money back + $300 at the salvage yard. You could end up with a 9-5 for free! Or even make a few $$$.
Been there, done that, with a 2000 9-3SE. My 2c.

im gonna attack it tomarrow i changed the oil last night i didnt think it was worthy of pictures ill pick threw it and make a list of issues any help here would be great and any 9-5 knowledge and of course parts..

Plan on doing a little modding to the exhaust, the cutout is different from '02-'03 and '04-'05. Unless you have the hidden tip, which you probly do, or your probly getting a new exhuast which you probly will.

ok i took a good look at the car today and made of list of problems things needed and things to be tossed.....

problems

1. drivers front and rear window do not work.
2. sid and acc screen fail no suprise
3. all heat ac comes out of the top defrost and no place else help!
4. three broken DI screws help! drill and tap?
5. 2.3 t and not a 2.3T gt17 paper weight need a td04
6. shark fin looks like i put on a shirt from five years ago "shrunk"

needs

1. shark fin antenna
2. aero sides
3. aero fogs 2005 style round
4. corner markers
5. wheels factorys wont cut wondering how my steel gray aeros will lokk on it
6. a td04 or bigger

problems

1. WIFE another saab..... thank god for my quick wit and i bought her a new truck a coupple of months ago. problem solved i told her this would be hers to bring to shows and so on so we came to agreements on a blacked out aero clone with some power under the hood and maybee pink calipers ill talk her out of that down the road.


plans

i will probaly go with the same set up on the vert td04 and jzw tune
might be swaping parts from vert for a holset...

i will keep posting work and progress will be verry greatfull if any one can help with needed parts and help with problems listed above.

can anyone give me a hand on whats up with the heater on my car its only blows out the defroster vent even if you hit other buttons??

Door flapper problem it auto and on at the same time and read the codes in the ACC panel

What jssaab said. It will most likely be an inexpensive fix, requiring a plastic part. Read the ACC codes by pressing auto and off at the same time. The codes will tell you what to pull apart to see where it needs fixing.

Take out the stepper motor on passenger side and tap the shaft in on the rear side. The gears are not making contact. Been there done that. If when you are removing the motor you notice the plastic part has failed then that will have to be replaced.

thanks guys its been buging me.

body parts are all done got front bumper rear bumper and two fenders painted for $300. picking up sat and will install new nose on my day off thursday ill take some pics. now i just need two corner markers and aero fogs also all the plastic lower grill peices for front and rear bumpers...

also im fairly new to the 9-5's what should i look out for??? 2002 2.3t 5-speed

No that's not it

Check eeuroparts, but first see what's broken, if its jsut the arm its a 10 dolalr dealer part, if its the shaft too, eeurop has a repalcemtn shaft/arm

OK just drooped this off at the body shop ill take some pics when it gets back still need side skirts grills and corner markers......... any help LOL can't wait to get this on the road and save the 93 from the daily driver abuse.

car 85% done just have to install the rest of the lower grills fogs and lights.
also have to re fit some pannels that dont line up correctly its on its way to be a linaero...
