Popping and wheel rubbing

So here is a short story on what happened. My friend was designated driver the other night, and needless to say he took a corner beyond his ability, hit a median spun the around and took out a sign Luckily no one was hurt

Bent two of my rims, and evidently now I have suspension damage

I jacked my car up, put on two of the old rims and tires (put them on the back) and now when you turn the wheel it rubs on the fender or ground effect and it pops when you turn the wheel. The alignment needless to say is now way out of whack. Any ideas on what will need to be replaced? I'm going to take it next week to have it checked out. Here's a few pictures, you can tell the driver side wheel is shifted back a bit.

I'm thinking probably tie rod ends, and control arm(s) and bushings? Any ideas guys on parts and labor?

I'm sure replacing the front fender, door, and the glass in the mirror isn't going to be cheap.

1) you need new hangouts and friends. 2nd wild stories of carnage in a short time. too bad.

2) Looks to me that the tire is shoved backwards. The gap from the fender to the door looks normal, but the tire spacing in the wheelwell is too far backward. Your list seems accurate; control arm and everything attached to it. For your sake.....I hope that the subframe where the control arm mounts to isn't tweaked, or you'll be putting a whole subframe under it too. Not the end of the world if you have to, but on an "old" car like that....the damage incurred could easily total it. Just a fender, door and repaint could add up quick.

sorry to see it man...keep us posted.

Yep....subframe, tie-rod, control arms or more likely, all of the above to some degree.

Time to hit the junkyard...

All of that stuff should be fairly easy to find and swap yourself. Fenders and doors are easy.

Oh, and pro tip: Make sure your designated driver can actually drive.

Is this gonna be an insurance claim or a DIY repair?

If DIY, it's time to start looking for a parts car. Even if you can find reasonably priced used parts, they're gonna add up quick. If I were you, I'd be scrubbing Craigslist for <$500 9000's right now.

(Edit: <$500 not <$5000. Sorry!)

Honestly, if it needs a new sub frame, i'll hold onto it and use it as a parts car. I'm paying out of pocket for the damage.
In all fairness I was egging my friend on to drive a little faster.

You're lucky, the left subframe replacement is not a big deal... it's a DIY bolt-on job.

One more thing I learned today!

But in all seriousness this isn't something I could do myself. I have the tools, but my HOA wouldn't take kindly to it. That and it's winter and we just got about 14' of snow

If you had the parts all ready to go, you could swap the subframe in under 2 hours. Maybe not so much on your first time, but it's one of the easier things to do.

Depending on what is actually damaged, you may only need the sub-frame part that normally comes out during a transmission pull for a clutch job. That would be even easier.

Now that I think about it, you should check to see if the subframe is pushed in, as it holds the end of the transmission. All the stuff under the hood may have shifted.

On second thought: just scrap it and buy a Honda.

I've looked under the hood several times. I don't see anything in the engine compartment being out of place. Yes the wheel is horribly out of alignment, I drove it less then two miles last night, it's not pulling, or shaking which I guess is good.
It didn't seem to be popping anymore though. I guess i'm going to keep catching a ton of shit because this isn't something I have the facilities to do myself. I'm not scrapping the car.

There is no knowing what exactly happened/got damaged until you check the underbody out.. You definitely have a tweaked strut, control arm, tie rod, subframe.. could be any or all of those...

Inspection is needed

Good luck, if you need parts let me know

I've got the passenger door in that color and trim piece. If you ever find yourself in need of it... let me know.

Also, If the steering wheel is cocked (out of alignment when you're driving straight) I'm pretty sure you can count on at least a tie rod. But again, you're gonna need to get under it.

As for labor costs, some jackass hit my passenger side (my reasoning for having aforementioned door) and bent the dogshit out of my tie rod. His insurance covered it and the bill was over $300 just for that. Your best bet would be a DIY repair. WSW will hook you up ^^

Just a quick update. I took my car to Brian at OEM Saab in Parker, CO. I love this guy! He went over the car top to bottom!

The only thing that needed to be replaced was the driver side control arm. Best $200 I ever spent! The car is now back on the road with a new set of Aero rims (not painted)

Now I have to save up and have the door and front fender replaced.
