Window drop

So, we're chilling in Front Royal, Va., last night after a nice day on Skyline Drive and a quick AT hike when the rear passenger side window in my 5-door 2001 9-3 starts going up, makes it halfway and then drops.

Yuck.

The glass is intact (yay!) but it won't catch enough to go all the way up. The window is up now, held in place with tucked in paper towels.

So.....is it worth my time and effort to try to take apart the door and see what's up (hah, hah) with the window? Or, is this a job best left to the experts and how much should I expect to pay to make this right again?

Sounds like the exact same problem I had last Christmas - my window regulator broke. The part is damn near $300, and it's evidently a pain in the ass to install so I'd recommend having an indy do it - maybe an hour and a half of labor (if I recall correctly).

yeah, that's a great part to get from a junk yard. a motor and regulator at most junk yards is below $30 for the entire shit, motor and all. you can tack an extra 0 onto that price if you get it new from the dealer.

it is a pain in the ass to install if you have never done it, but once you have done one of them you'll know how it's done and will always remember. it's like riding a bike

ah yes

Well, it looks like I'll be giving Viking Automotive in Gaithersburg, Md., a call in the morning to get an appointment. I'm living in the city right now with no good place to muck around with repairs, so its best to leave it to the pros. Besides they hooked me up in the past with a good used headlight lens so I could pass D.C. inspection.

Thanks for all your help....again
