Unhappy CEL code P0033.. Please help.

Wondering if anyone has any help as to what is wrong with my car. CEL is on, code is P0033 - Turbocharger bypass valve control. When I had my oil changed, I had them look at it and they didn't know what it was. The mechanic tried cleaning my MAF sensor but that didn't help. I am guessing it is some kind of vacuum issue. I've checked all the air lines that come out of the bypass valve and all seem to be ok. Any help would be appreciated... I can't stand driving my car in "limp mode". Thanks

It sounds like a vacuum issue. Take out the lines and block off one end. Use a pressure duster in the other and see if a leak occurs along the rest of the line. Or you could just replace the lines, vacuum hose is cheap. If it is not the lines its probably has to do with the valve itself, which I do not know much about in these cars because it is an integrated unit with the turbo.

That fault code generally is caused by a split or crumpled bypass valve diaphram. They are the black plastic round housing on the compressor housing. It became a common failure so Saab released the diaphram as a spare part. Previous to this you needed to buy a whole turbo.

If this is the case. Would it be difficult to replace myself? Otherwise what is the shop time for this to be replaced? Thanks.
