Gearbox Malfunction

So, yesterday our 9-3 has the Gearbox Malfunction warning on the SID. I called the Saab dealership and scheduled an appointment for Thursday. Today went to take the car just up the road, got to my destination (after not having reverse at first), and the Gearbox Malfunction light went off. Do you think it's still going to have the code pulled, or am I SOL??

I'm guessing SOL, though I don't know much about these newer cars yet. I'd let the dealer know anyhow just to "have a record" of it. Maybe they have a good idea what's wrong and can help anyway.

Well, took it in, and they gave us a free transmission flush, they still didn't explain how the car lost 1qt of fluid, but they said that now if anything else happens they'll most likely cover it. They also couldn't explain why it said gearbox malfunction. Pretty Much all they said is "here's a free transmission flush, normally you'd pay for this, but we'll be nice and give it to you for free... "

I think that they want to know that the trans is full so if it does lose another quart they can go from there...

I was really dissatisfied by this car and I had to sell it.

I am Previous Saab owner i had the 2004 9-3, but unfortunately i had to sell it because of the problems that came with this beautiful car.
Most important one was the "Gear box malfunction". the problem started after 8 months of owning the car. i took it to the dealer more than 8 times on different occasions due to the same problem every time they fix it and it goes wrong again. They installed a new gear, new sensors but again the same problem kept happening
my parents used to drive a saab long time ago and never had a problem with it. i guess Saab's started to come with all those defaults after being soled to

Do you have to bump every thread about gearbox problems and post the same message?

And Now for the Rest of the story.....Auto failures were extreamly high in the Sports sedan Due to FAILED Radiator Coupling Rings for the transmission Oil Cooler Running through the RAD...I'm Sure they did the Recall if it Applied at the Dealer? This is a Terminal Transmission failure and Led to Thousands World wide of Sports sedan trans/Radiator Replacements Under Warranty. VALEO the radiator manufacture Was Sued by SAAB for this Failure
